A number of Eastern Bay businesses, have been hit by burglaries, overnight.
Police say, a ute was taken from Ōpōtiki Mechanical services at about 11:45 last night.
The occupants then allegedly did a smash and grab at Port Ōhope General Store at about 12:40 this morning.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle as it fled, but found it stopped a short time later.
Senior Sergeant Al Fenwick says, two juveniles and a 19-year-old have been taken into custody.
Fenwick says, the juveniles are in youth aid, while the 19-year-old will appear in the Whakatāne District Court today.
A few hours later, three businesses in the Whakatane district were hit by burglaries.
Police were called to The Strand about 3.30am following a report of a burglary at Jewelz Whakatāne.
The Warehouse in Whakatāne was burgled five minutes later, and Edgecumbe Vets around 4am.
Police say it's unclear what's been taken from the The Warehouse and Edgecumbe Vets.
Fenwick says, they believe the same person is behind the three burglaries.
He asks, anyone who saw suspicious behaviour, to call 105, or Crime stoppers.
