Man Charged With Manslaughter After Minginui Hunting Incident

One person has been arrested over the death of Kawerau man Stuart Stobie.


Stobie died in Minginui last Friday, in what Police described as a hunting incident.


A 46-year-old man is due to appear in the Rotorua District Court today, charged with manslaughter.


The man has also been charged with unlawful hunting and unlawful possession of a firearm, Police said.


Stobie's death has been referred to the Coroner.

Family and friends have posted tributes on social media following his death.


His daughter Briar described Stobie as a hunter, fisherman, dad and Poppa Stu.


Stobie’s partner Kerry Swinton remembered his kindness and intelligence and said Stobie “uplifted me, gave me the strength to move forward.”


Stobie was also a member of the Kawerau Bowling Club - the club wore black armbands as a mark of respect during a match against Te Teko RSA on Saturday.
