Police have now launched a homicide investigation after a man died in Whakatāne last night.
According to Police, at around 9.40pm last night, a man in his 20s was brought to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but died upon arrival.
Police are making inquiries into how the man came to be injured, and are appealing to the public for information.
"Initial indications suggest the man may have suffered his injuries in Tāneatua, and Police are continuing their investigations there today."
