Rural burglaries on the rise

Eastern Bay Police are warning residents in the region's rural centres, of an increase in burglaries.

Kawerau Police say in the past two weeks there have been a number of thieves cruising Edgecumbe, the Awakeri Plains and the Manawehe area.

At least eight burglaries have been reported, with milking sheds targeted in the plains area.

Motorbikes have been taken, along with chainsaws, electrical grinders and drench.

Police say a house has also been burgled in Manawahe Road, with electrical appliances lost.

Anyone witnessing suspicious behaviour is urged to immediately contact Police.
