The company which makes GHD hair straighteners, has issued a warning to Eastern Bay salons about counterfeit products.
GHD Hair has contacted a number of salons in Whakatane, alerting them to the possibility of fake suppliers.
The company's confirmed to 1XX News, it's issued what it calls a 'fake alert', about others trying to pass off cheap straighteners as the real deal.
The company says people should only purchase them from official stockists, and not to buy over the Internet, as there's a good chance they're fake.
It's not the first time counterfeit straightening irons have been sold in New Zealand.
Rueben Blades Hairdressing Academy in Christchurch is recalling potentially dangerous straighteners, which it thought to be the genuine product.
A GHD spokesperson says fake stylers present possible safety issues to users.
